Forkbeard
Forkbeard's body is elongated and slightly flattened laterally. Its eyes are large and round, and its chin is worm-like tentacle. It has two
dorsal fins, of which the first one is short with a rounded tip, and the other one is long. Forkbeard is dark hazel with lighter belly. Odd fins
are edged with a narrow white and dark stripe.
It grows to 64 cm in length and weighs up to 3.5 kg. It lives in the Adriatic sea at depths of 5-270 m. It spawns in winter.
Its habitat are holes and cracks on the rocky seabed. It loves the darkness and the dark night and hiding in deep holes from which they
rarely leave. In darkness forkbeard copes with the otolith, which are located in the skull and uses them as organs of balance.
It also uses tentacles to feel the bottom in complete darkness. At the beginning of the night forkbeard comes out of its hole in search of
food. It feeds feeds on other fish, carrion, worms and tiny crustaceans, which are her favorite foods.
Forkbeard is an underestimated fish, although it was very tasty meat. Its liver is rich in omega-3 fat acids and therefore is very healthy.
Tabinja mrkulja
Tijelo je izduženo i bočno blago spljošteno. Oči su joj velike i okrugle, a ispod brade joj se nalazi crvoliko ticalo. Ima dvije leđne peraje od
kojih je prva kraća sa zaobljenim vrhom, a druga je dugačka.
Tamnokestenjaste je boje, a prema trbuhu je svjetlija. Neparne peraje su obrubljene uskom bijelom i tamnom prugom.
Raste do 64 cm dužine i do 3,5 kg težine. U Jadranu živi na dubinama od 5 do 270 m. Mrijesti se zimi.
Živi na kamenitom dnu, u rupama i procijepima. Voli tamu i mrklu noć i skriva se u dubokim rupama iz kojih rijetko izlazi. U mraku se
tabinja snalazi pomoću otolita koji se nalaze u lubanji a služe joj kao organi za ravnotežu.
Od osjetila se koristi i pipaljkama kojima u potpunom mraku opipava dno. Početkom noći tabinja mrkulja izlazi iz svoje rupe u potrazi za
hranom a hrani se strvinama drugih riba, sitnim crvićima i račićima koji su joj najdraža hrana.
Tabinja je podcijenjena riba iako joj je meso izrazito ukusno. Jetra joj obiluju Omega-3 masnim kiselinama pa je jako zdrava.
